//Photobook as Object//
Jan Rosseel
Oslo
 August 15-20, 2017
Max participants// 8

This intimate and intensive six-day workshop focuses on understanding the process of storytelling with a personal vision and aim of making a photobook. Led by Jan Rosseel, celebrated photographer and bookmaker, we will work on conceptualizing ideas, the editing process, and presentation, leading to finished book dummies.

This course dives into all the practical aspects of making a photobook and how to problem-solve the medium shift between singular images to the photobook as a complete object. Participants arrive with one or more bodies of work they'd like to develop in book form. Through individual and group discussions and critique of current work and interests, participants will examine the strengths of their ideas and intentions, develop skills to better conceptualize satisfying and sustaining projects and realize the potential of their photography as a book. We will cover concept development, the editing process, design issues such as choice of size, paper, grid and typography, and details of the printing process. Participants will leave this workshop with at least one book dummy and ideas about how to get their book to an audience.

Constructive criticism, honesty, and the collaborative process are key concepts in this workshop. Feedback is crucial for the development of each project and therefore participants are encouraged to play active roles in discussions. Expect intensive days, pushing boundaries and exploring new ways of storytelling. Experimentation is encouraged.
