Joyce Tenneson
//I want to allow others to reveal and celebrate aspects of themselves that are usually hidden. My camera is a witness. It holds a light up for my subjects to help them feel their own essence, and gives them the courage to collaborate in the recording of these revelations.//
Joyce Tenneson is born US. She is an internationally acclaimed artist. She grew up on the grounds of a convent, in a world full of spiritual rituals and cycles, an experience that had significant impact on her work. As an artist, spirituality and sensuality became completely interwoven in her psyche and in her images
The premise of the exhibition ‘Light warriors’ is Tenneson´s connection with spirituality and femininity through presenting five bodies of work, Light Warriors, Transformations, Luminous Spirits, Wise Women and Trees and the Alchemy of light.
Joyce Tennesons portraits of women goes beyond the surface beauty, revealing human complexities. It is as if she has been drawn to her subjects because they possess an inner power and radiance that resonates with her. We are met with enigmatic, timeless and moving souls. Her portraits of women over the age of 60 in Wise Women reminds us that we may each one day blossom into our 60s, 70s and beyond.
